Women’s Only: 3 Things Women of CrossFit Fear

There are a lot of facets of the sport of CrossFit that people cannot prepare you for. These are things that sneak up on you and rock your world.
I LOVE CROSSFIT. Seriously, not to get all geeky on you, but I do. Even when I hate it, I love it. That’s why we keep going back, right? I love the camaraderie. I love the workouts (mainly when I’m done, but still). I love the changes in my body, mind, and athleticism. I love it. However, there is a long list of things that I could say “no one ever told me,” or “I wasn’t expecting that.” There are a lot of surprises. There are a lot of facets of the sport of CrossFit that people cannot prepare you for. These are things that sneak up on you and rock your world. Some of these things we love. Some of these things we hate. Some of these things we fear. The following is a list of the three things I fear because of CrossFit.

1. Shaking Hands.

From a distance my hands look like dainty woman hands. They are small, with semi-manicured nails. Then you come up close! I have calluses bigger than a man who does manual labor. They are rough, bumpy, flakey, and most of the time too sore to grip anything. These hands can do some serious work. I’m proud of what they can accomplish. I just fear a handshake! I see the inner thoughts of the person with whom I am shaking hands written on her face. I envision a Seinfeld episode. Not to mention the pain of shaking hands. It is a rare week when I can grip my steering wheel without a small whimper escaping my mouth. I feel accomplished by what my hands can do; I just have to invest in some paraffin wax a little more often than anticipated!
