What was your athletic background prior to CrossFit?
I played professional baseball with the San Diego Padres.
How did you hear about CrossFit? What convinced you to join, and why have you stayed?
I had a trainer at 24 Hour Fitness who was CrossFit Level 1 certified and got me into the whole training methodology of CrossFit. What made me stay was the competition aspect of CrossFit — it filled the void left by getting injured and not being able to play baseball professionally.
How do you manage the mental and physical demands of CrossFit training?
I just fall back on my sports background because that gave me a really good base with the mental drive and desire.
What do you love about the people and/or place where you train?
The unconditional community support, no matter how good you are at this stuff.
What do you do in your everyday life? How has CrossFit impacted that role (or roles)?
I am currently a student and personal trainer. CrossFit has helped me make fitness a priority in my life, finally.
Looking back, what 2-3 things did you wish you knew when you started CrossFit?
I wish I had better understood that lifting big weights was only one side of fitness or being considered fit. Also, that flexibility and endurance are also important parts of physical fitness.
What is your most memorable CrossFit moment? What is your most embarrassing moment?
Most memorable was placing at my first local throwdown! Most embarrassing would have to be falling on my trainer when trying to do wall climbs…
