Liposuction and coolsculpting are two very common methods for body weight reduction. Liposuction is an age old procedure done very rampantly by plastic surgeons all over the world as the most basic form of weight loss surgery. Cool sculpting on the other hand is a new age technology recommended by aestheticians to reduce dress sizes and to obtain the figure you always dreamed of.

There are always pros and cons to all procedures and I will be mentioning a few for either procedures to assist you choose the best option for yourself.

Liposuction, a surgical practice for the past 2 decades. Pros to liposuction are, it is a safe, permanent removal of the fat cells, which means post surgery if at all a person gains weight it will not be in these areas where liposuction has been performed, as the fat cells are removed and they do not regenerate. It also provides the patient with the desired body and size. Liposuction removes fat in areas which are resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction also has the benefit whereby it reduces the health risks due to obesity or overweight. Although liposuction is basically a cosmetic procedure done for weight reduction, it is also used in certain medical conditions such as gynecomastia, lipomas, lymphedema and lymph dystrophy syndrome.

The cons to liposuction are they are mostly done on patients who have not loss their skin elasticity due to aging or sun damage, hence it is not advised in patients over the age of 50. In some cases, post procedure there may be damage seen on the skin like marks, bruising, bleeding and swelling. Although in most cases they do subside over time. In rare cases there may be allergic reactions to the medications used, infection at the puncture site, and skin necrosis.

Coolsculpting, a non invasive procedure whereby cold temperatures are used to inactivate the fat cells, which are in turn removed from the body by its natural excretion system. The pros to this procedure is that it is non invasive, hence no operative procedures and risks of operations. It is a method which uses the body’s natural excretion system to remove the fat cells. There is zero downtime for this procedure hence can be done as an outpatient basis, reducing the cost of hospital stay. It is also a painless procedure.

The cons on the other hand are, it is not effective for severely overweight individuals. It is only beneficial for individuals who have a small bulge or unwanted excess fat. The results only lasts as long as you maintain a healthy diet and exercise which means post procedure care is permanent. The procedure also needs to be repeated multiple times in the target areas to obtain the wanted results. The results take a few weeks to be visible post procedure. In rare cases, there may be redness, swelling, bruising and loss of sensation in the target areas.

I do hope the information provided would be beneficial for those looking a solution to the weight management issues. Do consult a doctor prior to making your choices to see which procedure would be best suited to your needs.
