Everybody knows of the waist blues. Eat a little junk food and somehow the waist increases by 2 to 3 inches, almost overnight. And most people actively seek to control their waist by diet and exercise. What few people know is that the right exercises can not only help to trim the waist but also develop core strength.

So what is core strength?

Well simply put core strength is the strength of the muscles that girdle your trunk and pelvis. The abdominal muscles, back muscles and all those near your pelvis come in this. These muscles are important for maintaining the stability of the body and are essential in the carrying out of many physical activities. In short, a stronger core can help you avoid lower back pain and improve your posture along with overall fitness.
Some exercises which target the waist also help to strengthen core muscles. So if you plan out your workout well you will able to kill two birds with one stone.

• Classic Crunches

The first are the legendary crunches. Most people will tell you that this exercise is not so effective. The matter of fact is that it is effective at doing what it is supposed to do. Crunches will not help you lose weight or get insanely fitter but they will help you reduce your waist and develop stronger core muscles. A study proved that crunches can make you lose up to two inches in six weeks without any changes in diet. Not only did the participants lose weight but they gained improved core strength.

Classic Crunches

How do you do crunches? It is quite simple. Lie on your back, knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart. Place your hands on your thighs, across your chest or behind your ears. Slowly curl up towards your knees until your shoulders are about three inches off the floor. Hold the position for a few seconds and lower down slowly. If you are new to exercise start off with 3 sets of 8 to 10 repetitions.

• Plank

The plank is an excellent exercise that targets not just the waist but your whole body. Planks will lead to a stronger core, and strengthen your back muscles reducing your chances of developing lower back pain. And as expected it will help you trim your waist.

Planking
Also, the plank is touted to improve metabolism. The plank is an excellent exercise to start the day with and also serves as an excellent exercise to end a rigorous exercise session with.

So how do you do a plank? It is quite simple. Get into a press-up position, bend your elbows in a way where your body forms a straight line and rest your body weight on your forearms. Suck your belly inside and stay in the same position for a minute.

As far is the waist reduction is concerned you can ramp up workout effectiveness by pairing your workouts with a waist training corset. Waist training corsets can really help in melting off the inches of your waist and belly. However, do not think of them as magic, waist training corsets will only give good results when paired with a good diet and an overall healthy lifestyle.
