People who have spent years struggling with a health condition, be it depression, anxiety, Hashimoto’s, leaky gut, frustrating weight gain, chronic pain, unshakable fatigue, or a devastating injury, will go to any lengths they can to feel better and reclaim their lives. Too often, that sends them running from one potential cure to another. Rarely, if ever, do they get the results they are looking for. There are a number of reasons for this. It was for this reason that Dr. Partha Nandi, an American trained Indian doctor founded the #Health Hero movement which is built around Dr. Nandi’s 5-Pillars Of Health.

For Dr. Nandi, this movement, aimed at helping real people just like you reclaim their health, has been a lifetime in the making. Dr. Nandi grew up in Calcutta India. At the age of 6 he came down with a mysterious illness. He went from doctor to doctor and no one could tell him what was wrong. His health continued to deteriorate. Finally, in Bangalore, he met with the incredible warm and charismatic Dr. Chandrasekhar who diagnosed Dr. Nandi with rheumatic fever, a potentially life threatening disease that afflicted the joints and the heart. By now, Dr. Nandi’s condition was quite severe. He spent the next 10 days in the hospital fighting for his life. Dr. Chandraesekhar was the first Health Hero in Dr. Nandi’s life. His uplifting support was key to Dr. Nandi’s recovery. And recover he did, although he was forced to spend a year of his life on bedrest.

Now, Dr. Nandi is a practicing gastroenterologist as well as an author. He is also the creator and host of the internationally syndicated television show Ask Dr. Nandi. He has committed his entire life to helping real people, just like the patients he sees each and every day, recover from the health conditions which affect them. For Dr. Nandi, preventative medicine is just as important as helping people cure. After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Central to Dr. Nandi’s missions are the people he calls Health Heroes. These are people who have made health a central part of their lives. They have chosen to be active, enthusiastic, and unstoppable in their own lives. Most importantly, they inspire others. Dr. Nandi uses his television show to shine a spotlight on these Health Heroes, hoping that by sharing their stories, others will be inspired to take steps to become their OWN Health Heroes!

Nutrition: It sounds like a corny saying, but it is true, you are what you eat! Not only do you fuel your body with the nutrients you put in it, but nutrition actually shapes your body down to the cellular level! By consuming whole, health, natural, food, you can change everything. Best of all, Dr. Nandi teaches that eating healthy can be fun, easy, affordable, and delicious!

Movement: Your body and mind crave movement. You don’t need to run marathons or do Olympic weight lifting, but it is important that you find moments in your daily life to embrace movement. Whether you are simply walking the dog or folding laundry, activity can be found anywhere! Dr. Nandi also speaks about the incredible benefits of yoga, weight training, and cardiovascular activities.

Tribe: Humans are naturally social creatures. Not only do we crave social interaction, but studies have shown that social bonds actually help to decrease stress, anxiety, and depression while extending your lifespan. Get out there and find your tribe! It could be made up of anyone, from your family, to people at work, to people who are interested in the same hobbies as you.

Mindfulness: The practice of mindfulness is all about being present and aware in each moment of your life. Primarily, mindfulness is practiced though meditation. You can start this practice with just a few minutes every day. The results will be amazing!

Purpose: What gets you out of bed each morning? Living life with a purpose can have amazing transformative effects. Doing so will help you set goals while always looking on the bright side. The key is finding your purpose. Remember, it could be anything!
