GET TO KNOW MATT
What was your athletic background prior to CrossFit?
I have experience with ballroom dancing and track and field in high school.
How did you hear about CrossFit? What convinced you to join, and why have you stayed?
Andres, my trainer, introduced me to CrossFit. He convinced me by forcing it on me, but I really ended up liking the camaraderie and motivation.
How do you manage the mental and physical demands of CrossFit training?
I think of the food I’ll get to eat afterward — it is my reward for trying to kill myself!
What do you love about the people and/or place where you train?
The camaraderie is the best. They have very positive attitudes along with being extremely supportive of each other. They can also understand what I go through.
What do you do in your everyday life? How has CrossFit impacted that role (or roles)?
I am a software engineer by day. CrossFit gives me an outlet for the frustrations brought on by said job.
Looking back, what 2-3 things did you wish you knew when you started CrossFit?
In general, I wish I knew to start earlier. Also, I wish I had known to pace myself and be methodical about my training instead of going overboard.
What is your most memorable CrossFit moment? What is your most embarrassing moment?
The most memorable moment was the UTC throwdown in Corona, CA. Most embarrassing was injuring my shoulder doing a snatch balance.
