Albuquerque in New Mexico is a cosmopolitan city that is surrounded by the Sandia Mountains in the east and a volcanic ridge in the west. The city tends to be hot throughout the summer and cold in winters though you will not find snow normally. It is the largest city in the state. Now, Albuquerque has turned into a tourist attraction and the following are the must see attractions in the city.
International Balloon Fiesta:
The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is held in Albuquerque every year in the month of October. This is a major attraction and many people come here to just to participate in the balloon fiesta. The desert environs is the main reason why the sport is famous here. It is considered to be among the best places in the world for hot air ballooning. When the fiesta commences you can see balloons everywhere from anywhere in the city. If you want to view the city from a different aerial perspective then you should go on a balloon ride which is on offer during the fiesta.
Albuquerque Biological Park comprises of the Albuquerque aquarium, the Rio Grande botanical gardens and the Rio Grande zoo. If you are looking for a day out with your kids then this is the place to go to. You can view hundreds of animals and some of the endangered animals too. Kids usually love watching the sharks at the aquarium. The flowers and butterflies in the gardens are also a treat to the eyes.
Rio Grande Nature Center State Park:
The Rio Grande Nature Center State Park is a great destination if you want to be with the nature. There are hiking trails and you can hike to your heart’s content. For the bird watchers, the place is a god send as they get to watch a lot of aquatic birds.
Sandia Peak Tramway:
The Sandia Mountains are more than 10,000 feet in height. The Sandia Peak Tramway has become a tourist attraction as you get to view Albuquerque from such a height. Hanging on a cable car and viewing the surroundings is a wonderful experience.
Albuquerque Museum of Art and History:
This is one of the foremost institutions in Albuquerque which provides the visitors a sense of history. It is near the Old town and you can view items that are even 400 years old. You can learn about Albuquerque’s history and how settlement happened here. It is a great place for both young and old and you can spend a whole day here learning a lot of things.
Indian Pueblo Cultural Center:
The Pueblo people were the original inhabitants of New Mexico. They fled when the Spanish came here. There are still Pueblo people around and the cultural center celebrated the Pueblo people and their heritage. You can take part in the cultural tours that are conducted or you can enjoy the cultural events etc that are staged here.
Though Albuquerque is a great tourist destination, it has become a place where people are willing to settle. This can be gauged by the fact that there are many new home buyers in the area.
