The OC Throwdown, now in its fourth year, was held January 12 and 13, 2013. Sure, everyone knows that the CrossFit Games come every July, but the OC Throwdown has grown in popularity — and consistently draws many of the “Who’s Who” names of elite CrossFitters out there — to the point that some refer to it as “the Winter CrossFit Games.”

Think that’s a bit much? Considering that you have to submit videos of yourself completing multiple challenger WODs to even qualify to compete, we’d say the bar has been set very high. No first-time competitors here.

Held at The Hangar at the OC Fair over the course of two days, the competition kicked off with a segmented 7km run (part of which was completed carrying a heavy sandbag) and later included a tough wall ball/power snatch couplet. Finale WOD #6? Just your standard absolutely brutal chipper. At the end of the day, Kenneth Leverich (Orange Coast CrossFit) and Lindsey Valenzuela (Valley CrossFit) each took first place for the Men’s Pro and Women’s Pro divisions, respectively; Jason Friedman and Lisa Rendic (TJ’s Gym) topped the Master’s divisions.

Tabata Times was pleased to witness the athletes battle through these challenging WODs in 30-degree-plus SoCal weather. While it was impossible to be everywhere at once, we offer a small glimpse of the action… and the coolest pair of tights we have ever seen an athlete wear.

Special thanks to Cody Rice and Missy Albrecht of CrossFit South Bay for their help!
